This work, heavily charged with meaning, was produced in two stages, with a space of ten years between them. Dalí began the oil painting in 1926 and provides us with a vision of the magnificent scenery he had in front of his house, in Llaner in cadaqués: the sea, the bay, with the east coast as the horizon and dividing line of the painting separating two quite distinct parts. When he completely redid the lower half of the work, Dalí replaced the rocky landscape and the figure of a bather with a whitish strip in the way of a stage, where he places, for sure, his absence, his ego expressed by a polychrome pedestal and ruby heart.
