The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí informs that tonight it bought an artist's work entitled Figure in profile, an oil on cardboard from 1925. The work has been sold in auction at Bonhams London, its hammer price being 1.8 milion euros approx.
The Dalí Foundation is happy to incorporate this work both because it enriches the collection and because it contributes to a better knowledge on the pictorial technique of the period before joining the Surrealist group. In 2009 the Dalí Foundation acquired Figure Seen from the Back from 1925 (Catalogue Raisonée No 148). Both participated in Dalí's first exhibition at Galeries Dalmau in Barcelona in November 1925. This is the fourth portrait in the Foundation's collection with Anna Maria as the protagonist.
The economic effort entailed by this acquisition accomplishes the Foundation's will to grant the audience access to Dalí's works of art. When the Foundation decides to exhibit this work in the Dalí Theatre-Museum, it will be presented to the media.
