Púbol, 1st August 2013
Since last March until the end of this year, Púbol Castle pays its particular homage to Richard Wagner, to mark the bicentenary of his birth (1813-1883). It takes place in Púbol due to the admiration and allusions of Salvador Dalí to the German composer that one finds in that site and its gardens. To celebrate Wagner’s anniversary, fragments of the text by Salvador Dalí Geological Fundaments of Venusberg are reproduced along the itinerary. The text was written by Salvador Dalí for the programme of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo’s, Bacchanale, premiered at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York on 9 November 1939.
The piece is divided into four panels that can be seen in different parts of the castle tour. In addition, in the Castle Library one can see the exhibition of a drawing owned by the Dalí Foundation, entitled Wagner's Bacchanale, with a portrait of Ludwig II of Bavaria.
