As part of the children's programme organised by the Acústica Festival, which several museums in Figueres take part in, the Dalí Theatre-Museum held an educational visit-workshop for families linked to the musical references found in the artist's work. Have you ever noticed the instruments that appear in Salvador Dalí's paintings? Guitars, violins, mandolins, trombones, surrealist pianos, cellos... and many more! Shall we create our own surrealist instrument?
We will need
Scissors
Glue
A thin stick about 60 cm long
A piece of black or white card
Pictures of eyes, tyres, musical instruments and notes, birds, clocks and watches, eggs... and anything else that reminds you of Dalí
A small sleigh bell
A piece of string
How to make it
1. Cut the card into a bell shape and glue it onto one side of the wooden stick.
2. Cut out the different surrealist pictures you have found and glue them onto the card to create your surrealist musical instrument.
3. Make a small hole at the bottom of the card and hang the sleigh bell from it.
4. Now you're ready to start playing your surrealist instrument!
