Observations
It is possible that Dalí titled this work "Melancholic eccentricity" after a photograph of the period by André Caillet, on the reverse of which is written "Melancholic eccentricity". This title coincides with the work presented by Dalí at the exhibition held at Julien Levy Gallery, New York, from March 21st to April 18th 1939, number 13. According to information shared by the Tate Modern, this painting was exhibited at the Dalzell Hatfield Galleries, Los Angeles, from September 10th to October 5th 1941, number 14, under the title "Mountain Lake".
