This is one of four artist's proofs or casts (EAs or APs) of the original edition of 8 + 4 casts of the Surrealist Object Functioning Symbolically. We are dealing here with an edition of a Surrealist object: the unique original work was made by Salvador Dalí in 1931, and is known only from a photographic companying an article by Dalí entitled 'Objets surréalistes', published in Le Surréalisme au service de la révolution, No. 3-4, 12/1931, Paris.
This original edition was produced in 1973 as a result of the agreement between Salvador Dali and the Galerie du Dragon in Paris. We know of the existence of other casts from this edition in other public and private collections.
