Unique Original Cast by Salvador Dalí Venus of Milo with Drawers, 1964 |
Here again we are dealing with an edition of a Surrealist object, in this case of a unique original work made by Salvador Dalí in 1936 that is now in The Art Institute of Chicago (No. 2005-424). This sculpture, on permanent exhibition at the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, is one of the four artist's proofs or casts (EAs or APs) from the edition of 8 + 4 made in 1964 by the Galerie du Dragon in Paris, and can be considered a unique original cast by Salvador Dali. Antoni Pitxot, Director of the Dalí Theatre-Museum, recalls that the artist wanted to differentiate this cast, specifically intended for the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, from the rest of the edition. For this reason, this cast does not have the pompoms on the drawers that we find on the other casts in the edition, as the one conserved in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
