In 1922 Dalí was staying in the Madrid Students' Residence, something that would have an important bearing on his personal and artistic life. There he made friends with Federico García Lorca, Luis Buñuel and Pepín bello. In this period he produced works featuring the scenes of Madrid nightlife in which the influence of the painter Rafael barradas is reflected. This work, however, is a lyrical evocation of daily life in Figueres, his birthplace, full of feelings and sensations. The memory is focused on the character in the centre, himself, and the different scenes that surround him: the lovers on the public bench, the woman hanging the clothes, the cock crowing, the clock marking the inexorable march of time, the students, the woman making lace, the children playing in the courtyard, or the plane, the moon and the birds.
